As a washed-up former college athlete, I’ve spent the last 20 years growing increasingly frustrated watching the NCAA sit in the driver’s seat of a bus slowly veering toward the guardrails—doing everything possible to avoid taking real responsibility for fixing the situation.
It's 2025 and it's clear that there is a critical mass of leaders across the country that are also frustrated at waiting for the NCAA to take action. They are stepping up to save college athletics before NIL, private equity, and other outside forces change these beloved sports forever.
We are creating this blog with the aim of staying present on the current state of NIL, with a keen focus on the moves that university leaders, athletic directors, legislators, and other influential individuals are making to fix the set of current challenges. I won't be discussing which college NIL collective has raised the most money, or which players are being paid by which billionarie to go to their school, or complaining/rejoicing at the success/failure that my school has had with NIL in order to pay for wins.
Rather, I'll be breaking down the latest changes and updates based on my perspective with the hopes that it can make a difference as college sports goes through this transitional phase.
